Consonant Sounds by Spelling
On this Page of the Guide you will eventually find an extensive collection of PDF files that are organized by consonant sound.
The consonant sounds will be grouped together when there is a overlap between spellings. For example the /s/ and /z/ spellings both contain spellings of s (us, is) and se (goose, choose), so these two sounds will be grouped together.

Note: The order that the following lists are presented appears random, but it is the order of presentation in the OnTrack Reading Phonics Curriculum. The following sounds all have multiple spellings which can confuse children, so they need to be taught. The /sh/ sound is particularly troublesome because most of the spellings are only used in multisyllable words, so care must be taken to be certain your child has already had some training in decoding multisyllable words before introducing the /sh/ spellings. The order that will be presented will be: /f/, /n/, /sh/, /ng/, /m/ and /v/.
