OE (toe) Sound Multisyllable Word List
OnTrack Reading Phonics Program
Teach your student the phonics advanced code in as little as 8 weeks with our 170-page workbook and instruction manual.
The /oe/ sound has seven spellings, o (go), oa (goat), oe (toe), o-e (bone), ow (blow), ou (soul), and ough (dough). These word lists are arranged both by spelling and by the chunk that the spelling occurs. They can be a valuable resource for locating words to illustrate a certain pattern or to find words to practice reading that pattern.
Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, 345 of them are multisyllable words containing the vowel sound /oe/.
Note on the word divisions: Each word is divided into chunks determined by the unique and highly effective OnTrack Reading Multisyllable Method. The chunks are not syllables.
The OnTrack Reading curriculum also avoids teaching the schwa sound. Instead, “perfect pronunciation” is emphasized for spelling purposes. For example, in a word like nitrogen, chunked ni tro gen, the second chunk is taught to be pronounced with an /oe/ sound rather than the schwa sound.
