The /v/ sound can be spelled v or ve. The digraph ve is an ending digraph and so is not found at the beginning of words, or of chunks of longer words. It is one of a class of ending digraphs comprised of ce, ge, me, ne, se, te, ve, and ze, each of which represents a sound of its first letter.
Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, 82 of them are words with the /v/ sound spelled "ve".
Note on the word divisions: Each word is divided into chunks determined by the unique and highly effective OnTrack Reading Multisyllable Method. The chunks are not syllables.
