Besides the s spelling, the /s/ sound has six more common spellings, c, ce, ss, sc, st, and se.
The "sc" spelling occurs mainly at the beginning of either a word or a chunk. Note that the word muscle is one of the few exception to the Rule of c. In all other words on the list the digraph "sc" is followed by an "e", "i", or "y".
Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, 18 of them are words with the /s/ sound spelled "sc".
Note on the word divisions: Each word is divided into chunks determined by the unique and highly effective OnTrack Reading Multisyllable Method. The chunks are not syllables.
