The /k/ sound has several common spellings, c, k, ck, ch, and cc. The "c" spelling appears in so many words that no list is provided here.
In the OnTrack Reading curriculum, the "ck" spelling is one of four Markers that mark the preceding vowel letter as a First Vowel Sound, that is, a short sound. In this list, cuckoo is the only exception.
Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, 151 of them are words with the /k/ sound spelled "ck".
